Better than the built in mic (a6000 users)

To be honest I don't understand why it has such a low rating. I have an a6000 and am so tired of the internal mic. It just didn't work. I didn't want to spend an extra $400 or more to upgrade to an a6300 just for the mic input. If your camera doesn't have a mic input like the a6000, this is definitely better than just an internal mic.

  • This is amazing

This mic helps block out background noise when I .

This microphone helps get rid of background noise when I record videos with friends in groups in crowded cafes, restaurants and other places. I just wish there was some way to attenuate the signal as some of the bands I record have very loud amplification. Basically, I use a "gun" microphone. It has a switch to toggle a "zoom mic" that focuses sound when the camera lens is zoomed in for close-up shots.

This is a terrible mic in EVERY way!

Those who praise this microphone either have never listened to the internal microphone or are experiencing auditory hallucinations. with my a6000 and a6300. Depending on what you're recording, the internal mic on both cameras sometimes sounds significantly better than this external mic. on the handle. Sony didn't have to be "professional" quality with this mic, but it's probably the worst product I've ever bought from Sony and I couldn't even count how many things I've bought from Sony. last 3…

I'll say right away: If mine is one of 1000 defects, then too bad. receive. First, it only works in pistol mode, the zoom function doesn't work (also claimed by Sony). That's not why I give 2 stars. Second, I tested extensively. My camera is 3 feet away from me in a quiet office. It was difficult to hear the difference between the internal mic and the ECM. Third, this is the biggest problem. There is constant noise/distortion. Looks like cell phone interference. I took my phone out of the…

To be honest I don't see any difference between the Sony A6000 camera's built-in microphone and this ECMGZ1M. I've tried many different scenarios, echo environments, in the car, in the garage, on the street and so on. I could never honestly say that the ECMGZ1M made the sound better. Sony's notes state that the ECMGZ1M doesn't work in zoom mode on the A6000, but to switch it to pistol mode I again tried many different options to make sure I got it right and never noticed any noticeable…

I'll say it straight away if my 1 in 1000 is defective, then that's unfortunate. I have received one. First, it only works in pistol mode, the zoom function doesn't work (also claimed by Sony). Not the reason why I give 2 stars. Second, I tested extensively. My camera is 3 feet away from me in a quiet office. It was difficult to hear the difference between the internal mic and the ECM. This mic sucks

I got the mic a few days ago and my new A6000 yesterday. I tested it for most of the day, yesterday and today, and honestly I was furious. I have read many reviews, read all the comments and now I am more confused than ever. Some users say it doesn't work with their A6000, others say "rejoice". I tested in a backyard with a light breeze, passing cars and an airplane. No improvement over the internal microphone. I shot tests at the wide end of the zoom and the narrow end. No difference. Then I…
