I was considering upgrading the AVR/5.1 system in my small TV room so I could experience Dolby Atmos, but the difficulty and expense of upgrading to 5.1.2 myself with ceiling speakers installed kept me from doing it away. When HT-A9 came out, I decided to try it. Delivering almost 7.1.4 along with the convenience of wireless speakers was very appealing. I expected the HT-A9's surround sound to outperform soundbars like the HT-A7000 and my basic 5.1 system, as the HT-A9's wireless speakers can…

Best Atmos system in this range

Sony made some big claims about their HT-A9, and they lived up to them. Key benefits include: - Stunning sound. Wow, that really puts you in a sound bubble. Virtual speakers work well. (See placement notes.) -Soundstage. That's why you don't have a soundbar. Good stereo separation and strong phantom center presence. While it's possible to use some Sony TVs as a center speaker, it's not essential. I am very happy with my non-Sony TV. You also have the option to use the voice enhancement feature.

Sonos killer! for home theater systems

I've recently moved to a new location and have fortunately installed a new home theater and music system: Criteria: - 60% Movies - 10% News/TV - 30% Music (Jazz , Rock, Classic, Bosanova, Deep House). Among them the new Sony HT A9 system with SASW5 subwoofer. I have the following systems at home (side by side) for comparison: - System 1: 1x Sonos ARC + 2x Sonos Fives rear + 2x Sonos Sub - System 2: 2x Wharfedale 11.4 Floor Standing (front) + 2x KEF Q100 (rear) + 1x Dali Spector VOKAL (middle) +
