I was considering upgrading the AVR/5.1 system in my small TV room so I could experience Dolby Atmos, but the difficulty and expense of upgrading to 5.1.2 myself with ceiling speakers installed kept me from doing it away. When HT-A9 came out, I decided to try it. Delivering almost 7.1.4 along with the convenience of wireless speakers was very appealing. I expected the HT-A9's surround sound to outperform soundbars like the HT-A7000 and my basic 5.1 system, as the HT-A9's wireless speakers can be placed anywhere in the room and each speaker has a tweeter, a woofer and includes an upward-firing speaker. Having so many speakers and being able to conveniently place them in different rooms is a unique advantage. So far I am very impressed with my HT-A9 and SA-SW5 subwoofers. It was extremely easy to install and set up (each speaker also has 2 microphones so the system emits auto-calibration test tones in about a minute). Compared to my previous Yamaha RX-S602 AVR and Bowers & Wilkins bookshelf speakers + subwoofer, the HT-A9 offers more "surround sound" and the SW5 subwoofer produces quite a powerful sound (I had to use the HT-A9 remote to turn the volume down). ). Standard bass level and no floor/sofa wobble). I watched Guardians of the Galaxy and compared to my old AVR the surround effects were more noticeable and clear. i will leave it The HT-A9 also has a variety of different audio options available via the remote control. If you have a compatible Sony TV like me (A90J) you can use the TV's speaker as the front center of the system. The HT-A9's audio settings are also displayed on screen along with the TV's settings and can also be changed using the TV's remote control. All of this is made possible by Sony's proprietary "S-Center" connector, not just an audio cable that can be used with any TV. He even offered to share my TV's Wi-Fi settings with the HT-A9 during the initial setup. If you don't have a compatible Sony TV, the HT-A9 creates a "virtual center". I did a quick test with and without using the TV's speaker as front center and there wasn't much of a difference. I chose to leave it on, but I don't think you'll benefit from the HT-A9 unless you have a compatible Sony TV.
