Easy to control by hand

I have owned this lens for several years. I've used it on two different APS-C sensor cameras and now the a99 II. This lens is sharp and focuses quickly. It's easy to control when in hand. When used on a clipped sensor, it simply extends the range. It has an SSM motor in the lens. The main downside to this lens is that the motor drains the battery quickly when the camera is in autofocus mode. I even dropped it on a muddy trail recently - no harm. It's well built.

Both lenses are good, both are full frame, but the SA170300G has better glass, faster autofocus and a super fast autofocus motor that doesn't make any noise. For me, this is very important when shooting a video. It's a bright lens, sharp and the Leica glass is top notch. The difference between this lens and the SSMII is that the SSMII has more heavily coated…

Best lens I have ever used or owned on a Sony camera

As other reviewers have pointed out, this is a bright light lens. If you can't figure it out from the aperture, you probably aren't ready for this lens. It's really sharp, colors are excellent and focusing is as quick and quiet as Sony claims. All this and the quality you feel in its construction make it a real pleasure to use. It's plastic, yes, but it keeps the weight down and still feels very premium. I carefully compared this lens to the Minolta Maxxum 100-300 F4.5-5.6. In the best of…
