SPOT Trace Waterproof Power Cable Review

Dead on arrival. I live in Asia and my boyfriend brought it to me. Trying to send it back and get a new one costs me as much as I paid for it.

The cable is long enough for my application but the location of the step down voltage interfered with the installation and the cable itself is overpriced. If you don't already work in a controlled environment or don't mind changing AAA batteries, this cable is a must-have. However, realistically, it should be valued at half its current value.

This is the ideal solution for hardwiring the SPOT Trace device and avoiding battery drain (although the internal battery should last a year). See the SPOT website and Revain for details. It operates on 8-20V DC and is ideal for almost any vehicle tracking application. The connecting wires are very small, so crimping the battery ring terminals requires some creative work.

cable is a good idea so you don't have to change batteries regularly; I bought this cable and instead of soldering the connectors I tried to crimp them. The problem is that the wires are so thin that every time I tried to strip the insulation, the wire was cut. I ended up throwing the cable away and continuing to use the batteries. Changing batteries is a hassle, though, and I haven't replaced mine in my Spot Trace since they died a few months ago.

This is a great product and works exactly as advertised. We installed it on our boat, plugged it directly into the power supply and hid it in case our boat got stolen without them even knowing we had it. When the boat departs, I get an email showing where the boat is. I set it up to text me every day to let me know the system is working properly. This gives me great confidence that the system will work.
