I don't know what the construction of this grater is. It looks just like a few other graters I have, but almost every time I use it (for hard cheeses) I rub my knuckles. I got this grinder because it was made in one piece. The previous one broke because the plastic broke. And when the plastic cracked around the metal, I saw all the corrosion. I was looking for a fine grater for chopping carrots. I don't call that a fine grater. The holes are almost twice the size of a fine grater. The carrot pieces come out bigger than I need. I would say this is a cross between a fine grater and a medium grater. I had to buy their horseradish grater - it's a fine grater.
