Slave Hopper doesn't seem to do anything

Bought after having trouble with cheap IDE>CF adapters and trying to install CF cards in a SLAVE. Unfortunately, this adapter seems to have suffered the same fate. tried startech support and they kept asking me the same questions in circles until i gave up. like all the same garbage. Otherwise it works fine if you don't have a master in the chain. Unfortunately the motherboard I had to use this with has a small flash drive installed that is soldered to the motherboard as the main drive.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Easy maintainability

Works great on my 1990 386SX.

I connected a 1GB SanDisk CF drive to the unit and connected the other end with an IDE cable from my 1990's 386SX. and also. It worked! Okay, I'll admit I was skeptical when I bought it, but it worked great. I'm absolutely thrilled! This old computer is not able to determine the geometry of the hard disk (this function appeared a few years later). So if you have a software tool like OnTrack Disk Manager, it will detect the CHS (Cylinders/Heads/Sectors) of the device connected to the IDE…

Fast and easy - great adapter

I bought this to replace the hard drive in a PowerMac G4 with a splined motherboard. The machine has been running for about 1 week and without any problems. Installation was easy and so far the software has had no trouble recognizing the drive. I'm using a Sandisk Extreme CF card and it works fast. I don't have any benchmark software, but programs load and run 2-3 times faster than with a hard drive. I'm deducting a star because the back of the board is completely exposed. The hard drive tray…

The first caught fire. After 12 hours of normal work

So, after 12 hours of normal work on a Pentium MMX 200 while installing Windows 98SE, the adapter caught fire and blocked the PC. I've listed a photo showing the tracks coming loose after being set on fire. It was wonderful and scary. It's still figuring out if the item didn't damage anything else, but I think it destroyed my SCSI card for my Jaz 1GB drive as Grappler no longer shows up in the BIOS and the SCSI circuit activity indicator just stays on with no sign of it. that the card works…

Works with my Mac Performa 630CD

This was the ONLY IDE device that worked with my Mac Performa 630CD. In fact, it was difficult to get it to work - not because of this device, but because I could only find 2 compact flash cards that would work with Performa. "Verbatim 4GB CompactFlash Memory Card, 95188 Black" (found here at Revain) was the only brand new card that worked. I also had a very old 32MB CF card that worked, but 32MB isn't that much space. 4GB is much better, and handy is the OS partition size limit on my Performa.

Pros
  • Large selection
Cons
  • Nothing here

It works damn well. Exceptionally good.

I needed to replace an old CF to IDE adapter. I have a very fast, durable CF card that contains my operating system. Everything like /tmp/log etc. is in RAM anyway, so it basically contains the embedded operating system. This one charges fast, doesn't chip, and I love the indicator lights. But what system administrator doesn't like blinking lights? However, it is difficult to assemble at the hardware level. I took some packing material, cut it to fit the bottom and installed it inside the…

  • Expensive

I have an old IBM PS/1 Consultant, 486-66MHz that could improve performance a bit and I thought the cheapest option would be to use a CFC >to>IDE Add adapter for works like an SSD - Solid State Drive. When I was looking for a suitable adapter I came across this one. Pros: + Reasonable price of $7.81 with free shipping when I bought this. + Installation without assembly, "Plug and Play". The system sees it as a hard drive, so no drivers are required. + CFC Activity Pass Through - This…
