The shave is always ready.

I bought four of these after the first one arrived ready to shave and I've shaved with it for over a week. I sharpened it a bit on my Shapton 30k stone and it shaved even better so I bought three more for gifts. I have owned over a hundred straight razors and have been shaving straight for over 35 years so I have shaved many types of steel and different blade options and I can say from experience that the $10 GD1996 is the best gold dollar brand razor. I have ever shaved with this razor and you

Rusts too easily. Looks very cheap

For $10 this isn't a bad product, but it's not a very good deal either. It can shave if you can sharpen and align it properly. However, it feels very cheap and the metal rusts incredibly easily. I have carbon steel knives that don't rust easily. This razor came out of the box with a large spot of rust. I cleaned it and polished it with a rust eraser and after a few days of storage in a dry place the rust spots reappeared. So basically you have to polish it every day or add a coat of oil before…

Ready to shave for less than $10? Wonderful.

I have a lot of experience with gold dollar razors. Your steel is pretty good. The build quality compared to the price is amazing. It's a decent shaver for the price. However, none of them were willing to shave, except for this one. I'm a big straight razor fan. I own dozens of classic and vintage straight razors. I have experience in sharpening and straightening. I've bought new razors (Gold Dollar and others) that were supposed to be "ready to shave" but they weren't. It really was this one…

Good hollow ground blade suitable for beginners.

This is actually a good razor for the price. Ignore any negative comments from razor snobs. These razors aren't perfectly ground and polished, and the acrylic handle is obviously underwhelming, but it keeps costs down. The acrylic handle is a bit flexible but strong and durable and easy to hold. A hollow-ground blade is good for beginners because hollow-ground blades are easy to sharpen and cut. I definitely recommend this razor for beginners. For a few dollars more you can buy the same razor…

As Expected

I ordered this 1996 Gold Dollar expecting to get the 1996 Gold Dollar and that's exactly what I got. A blade that can be made to work very well with a little oil on the elbow. After unboxing I wiped off the silicone grease that was heavily coating it and proceeded to bevel the diamond plate to 1000 grit. I then sanded it down to 8000 grit and an end stone. It took less than 10 minutes and after shaving I had a good shave. In general I am satisfied. You can do it all with lapping tape, which is…

Looked Good Razors and Blades

I was thrilled when I received this razor although it had a big smile it was almost ready to shave it just needed a little touch up and touch up . The main reason I bought this razor was to practice sharpening so I could sharpen my smile and when I tried to get it on the target stone it just broke out of the blue. I just wiped it off, no pressure at all. After spending 2-3 hours sharpening it only for it to break I decided to send it back and look at better quality razors. Don't get me wrong…

For the price it couldn't be better

I have been shaving with a Shatt straight razor for 6 years. Now I've decided to try this straight razor and I have to say that I really liked this change. Fresh out of the box, it's ready to shave, but not for a really close shave, after a few steps it actually works, better than a razor. Razor I used. The carbon steel seems to hold a good blade. The only thing I don't really like is the scale, but I like the idea of making a new, more personal one. I like working with wood, so I will enjoy…
