I have been using children's goals for a long time. They aren't designed for too much force, they adjust the length for the minimum tension to hold tight. If you apply too much tension then yes you will break it. I have 2 of these and they are both beautiful and durable. Sometimes I use them to block a kitten, other times for the little ones and so far have had no issues with length adjustment or breakage. Based on my experience, I would definitely recommend it and buy it again.

First of all, I didn't buy this as a childproofing item so anyone looking for a rating on that basis is advised. I am raising kittens and needed a space barrier.
