O.K., it's a pretty ugly hat. But for sun protection, it works great! The sides come down far enough that ears, nose, chin, and neck are shaded. People always guess that I am 8 years younger than I actually am. I attribute that to my life long vegetarianism (13 years vegan), active lifestyle (I run a lot!), and avoidance of the sun. Bought this hat in the Navy without the floral underside. Overall it's really stylish and functional. There's a wire in the brim that allows you to shape it to suit your face/hair. It doesn't weigh as much as a paper panama hat might and the brim is wide enough to give me good coverage. If you're a petite adult, it will even shade over a good portion of your shoulders. The drawstring on the inside is useful as it helped me fit it better to my head and I like having the option of the chin strap.

I wish this could be slightly larger. Apparently I have a large head and this is a tad bit tight. I kept it and wish it could be slightly looser. It is a nice hat. I have yet to see how well it packs.

I wanted a cute hat that would fold up for travel. I wear a small/medium and was prepared for this hat to be too big, because all hats are too big on me. It was awesome when I first bought it. Then I washed it, threw it in the dryer, and it's so so so so wrinkled. I can't get the wrinkles out. I guess it still protects my face from the sun, so it's still doing its job.

Thick enough to block out the sun and the brim is just wide enough, I think to provide good facial coverage. Not totally "fashion forward," but great for gardening and getting dirty, I think. The brim seems to have wire in it so as to make it stiff enough to put up or down. I haven't tried to wash it yet, but the material seems like it would be a good candidate for the washer.

I have very fair skin and can't go outside without broad spectrum sunscreen, long sleeves, sunglasses, and a wide- brimmed hat. I was hoping to find something a bit more stylish than my old REI sun hat from post-college archaeological dig days. After reading a lot of reviews, I chose this one. It provides good coverage and the adjustable chin cord is good for wind. It may not be the most fashionable but I'll take flawless, cancer-free skin over fashion any day.
