After over 50 years of service and many hours of sewing, I finally broke down and bought a new tape measure! I like that the numbers on these tapes are bigger and easier to read; They just need to be broken up a bit! Since there were two tape measures, one stays in my sewing room and the other in the drawer below with a metal tape measure. Sometimes all you need is a fabric measuring tape!

They are beautiful. I remember her from childhood. Ms M. across the street was a seamstress. She had them for giant sewing tables. Her husband, Mr. S., was a carpenter and occasionally "borrowed” one of them. I'll never know how one or the other ended up in my father's workshop. You guys actually use them to measure numerous points on the hull of my ocean kayak (plastic) before it's removed from the welder.

They are amazing - strong, flexible, easy to roll up and down. The only negative was that one of the tape measures was inaccurate from the metal cut edge to the 1" mark (it was more like a 13/16" not a true 1"). This was an easy fix - I loosened the metal clip, moved the clip further away from the end of the band, and then used pliers to squeeze the metal clip. Voila - it's now a true 1" from the edge of the clip to the 1" mark.
