Sleek Design, Low Cost

Snowflake sized grille on rear, curved foot to accommodate ski poles, bubble slope measurement (not particularly accurate but functional as intended) with avalanche area clearly marked. Seems to be quite well made and can be closed with a zipper if desired. Plus it's cheap.

Pros
  • THREE AVALANCHE DANGER LEVELS β€” Three easy-to-read threat levels are printed on the front of the AvaGage. Yellow represents low risk, orange represents medium risk, and red represents high risk.
Cons
  • Functionality

Easy to Read - Backcountry Gear

I just wish there was something I could attach velcro to the inclinometer so I can attach it to the ski pole when checking the incline. It's a bit difficult to hold it on the pole with cold hands (I can't put on gloves as I was afraid to touch it and drop it in a foot of snow). I'll tie it to a long rope or lanyard as a "powder cord" in case I should drop it.

Pros
  • SNOW CRYSTAL GRIDS - AvaGage has three snow crystal grids (1mm, 2mm and 3mm) on the back. Use nets to measure the size of snow crystals to further assess avalanche risk.
Cons
  • There are problems

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Two people are required to measure a remote right-to-left incline

Good for planning a route to measure distant slopes ascending left to right, but the instructions say you need a helper to ascend right to left. This is a very poor design that could be improved with a simple change: the bubble level and markers should be visible from the front and back, but it's difficult to use when you're alone in the field.

Pros
  • THREADED BASE – AvaGage fits snugly onto your ski pole or trekking pole so you can accurately measure incline. Can also be permanently attached to a ski/trekking pole with cable ties (not included). Use it on all poles for quick and easy reading!
Cons
  • Shelter

Great inclinometer - easy to use!

Works as expected. I made an improvement that made it more functional and accessible. I used a drill to add a hole in the corner so I can tie the inclinometer to the ski pole. So I can quickly determine the angle with my stick. It works great and all my backcountry partners are asking me to quickly measure every slope now that it's right there. Would buy it again and maybe the company will pick up my modification to make it better for everyone else.

Pros
  • COMPACT SIZE. At just 2.9 inches wide and weighing just 0.6 ounces, the AvaGage is the smallest avalanche display device available. easy storage!
Cons
  • Socket required
