I have 2 in each of my street lights, they turn on predictably at dusk and off at dawn. That's exactly what I wanted. Be sure to check each one before you climb the stairs - the lamp will turn on briefly with indoor or outdoor lighting, letting you know the bulb is good. My lamps are old and a few have had to be adjusted to improve lamp contact - glad to know the lamps are fine. I know how long they last but they come with a long warranty.

We chose these to save money on the old giant halogen spotlights. We have 4 headlights, two on each side of the garage. We didn't bother to check how much power the old monsters actually used, but keeping them running 24/7 didn't come cheap (laziness and forgetfulness don't help). right when the sun is at its peak.
