🌐 SunFounder Ethernet Shield W5100: The Perfect Connectivity Solution for Arduino R3 Mega 2560 1280 A057 Review

I bought this shield to learn Arduino development. The book I used had a chapter on internet support and it required an ethernet shield. I picked this particular board simply based on the reviews that other users left. I was able to set up the board without any problems as described in the individual lessons of this chapter.

Very good value for a standard Ethernet board with the W5100 chipset. It started with the standard libraries on the first try. Within minutes I had an Arduino web server up and running temperature and humidity statistics on the internet. Don't use the big little board.

I have an automation controller that uses MEGA. This Mega has an integrated web server that allows you to control and configure operating parameters. also uses an SD card I hooked this shield up to a new Mega with firmware and it booted right away. Build quality is great, no bad solder joints etc. No time was spent making the firmware compatible with the new 5500 Ethernet chipset due to some operational aspects of the controller code. I bought this and installed it on an Elegoo Mega 2560 duino. Worked well when powered by USB or a 9V DC wall outlet during development. When I put it in a production case powered by a stable 12V DC industrial power supply at exactly 12.0 volts, it couldn't communicate. The Duino worked and every other bit of code worked fine, the ethernet shield just couldn't communicate. There is clearly ZERO documentation with SunFounder. Do you think they even put the circuit on their website? No, they rather advertise their IoT cloud. And I bought two of these at once and a few months later another Mega 2560 from another source. In all devices, the 5.0V register was filled with a 3.3V chip! I had this piece of rock because I couldn't get it to work properly. No connection to Arduino. The pins were too long to fit, the solder under the board touched the USB connector on the Arduino board.
