I bought a used case at auction but found I can't connect my non-Supermicro motherboard. This allowed me to unlock (although it's annoying that you need it at all).

I hate it when companies miss something they know you need to build a typical computer. It's the same cable. If you are not using a Supermicro motherboard, you will need this cable. The good news is that it's well made and works great.

I bought this so the buttons and indicators on the front of the Supermicro CSE-846 would work. I'm used to it. I am using an ASRock Rack ROMED8-2T motherboard and with this cable everything works as expected. You can find a pinout for Supermicro's front panel connector online and make a similar cable yourself, but having something pre-made with all the connectors broken and clearly labeled is a huge time saver.

The thing itself is fine, it works as it should. 3 stars because this item should be standard in super micro packages, but it isn't. Supermicro has decided that it will only ship some proprietary cables with its server cases and won't even include a standard cable so the customer doesn't have to jump through hoops to get one. Thanks Supermicro. Otherwise, as I said, the cable works perfectly and the delivery was quick and pleasant.

As I write this, the article is called "Supermicro 11.81" 16-Pin Front Panel Connector Cable" which I chose because it was the length that I needed. The cable I received is 24" long. Not the worst in the world, some may be happy about that, but it does mean I have to do some cable management, although the advertised length would be very decent.
