Tamiya 87030 Masking 87031 Value Review

I use it mainly for masking Gunpla models. Works great and I've never had color gradients on parts that don't need painting. You can't go wrong with Tamiya products!

This tape is excellent for masking parts to be painted. Works equally well with acrylic and enamel paints, both brush and spray. Highly recommend for any detailed fairing needs!

This is by far the BEST masking tape for models. Leaves a clear line between different colors when painting plastic models. It can be a bit pricey for what it is but worth every penny and more. Highly recommended for painting scale models.

I've found that after applying this tape it's best to go over the edge with the paint covering it - this helps ensure a nice clean line (very similar to what you would have done if the room was painted). Dissolves easily and does not lift the paint. I use different widths for hiding and this does the job perfectly.

I am new to model making and have tried different masking tapes. Some of the edges were visible while others showed color. The Tamil's tape feels less sticky but stayed in place. I polished the surface after application and got the cleanest lines of color I've had to date. I use an airbrush and apply a few light coats. Good product, worth the money.

At $10, that's a really great price. I've used this tape before and it leaves a perfect straight line. But don't be an idiot like me. Without thinking, I opened the dispenser to clean it from dust, and then stuck the tape to any surface. I've learned that if you lay a roll of duct tape on its side, it will pick up dust and/or dirt due to the adhesive and will never give you a perfectly straight line again.
