It took me a bit of searching but I found the right needle to replace the leather factory stitching. As mentioned in the reviews, there is confusion between Speedy Stitch and Leather Factory Awls. These needles will NOT sew thick leather without a pre-punched hole without breaking. I take a 1/16 inch punch and grind the tip on it. I use it to make "first" holes in thick leather.
