The handle does not heat up. Tealyra's customer service is AMAZING and replaced the lids and my entire kettle (cracked base, split wood on lid due to excessive wear). Worth buying because of the customer service!

This item broke after two weeks of use. I filled it, put it on the stove and after a few moments I heard a loud hiss. When I took it off the stove, the floor parted and water shot in all directions. Too bad because I like the look of the teapot. I'm not sure what it's built for. It says it's safe to use on the stovetop, but it might actually just be good for brewing tea. Good luck with that if you decide to play like me.
