Works as advertised.

Used on a 12" Skyline Dobsonian I bought at a garage sale for $3. I watched an online video on how to use it and it worked like a charm. and eBay and saw the moon up close. Once I've cleaned the 8" Dobsonian Orion telescope and built a tripod for it, I'll try this one too. No complaints.

Pros
  • Nice
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging

Simple well designed collimator

Very good product which set up my 8 inch dobsonian probe quickly. Ease of use and multiple laser brightness levels make it easy to set up in lighter or darker areas. A very heavy product given its size which tells me it is built to last. I can't recommend it highly enough. The 2 inch adapter is also of very good quality and again very heavy for its size.

Must have for reflecting telescopes

I resisted buying one of these instruments for years but finally decided to do it because I didn't like the stars. As expected, the mirror moved slightly. After a few minutes with the mirror adjustment knobs, alignment was fine. The stars are looking better than ever, looking back I shouldn't have waited so long.

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Slightly dented

At the 2nd attempt it turned out: camera and photo

the first collimator had a defect (not calibrated). Since I was not satisfied, the seller contacted me and exchanged it. The second was perfect and looks like a great tool to get the job done. It is easy to check the accuracy of the collimator; Roll it on a flat table and watch the laser beam, make sure it doesn't go up or down, as long as the light is always in the same horizontal plane, that's perfect.

It's like taking a telescope to an optometrist

For years I used my telescope with the equivalent of astigmatism. But I didn't know that. Then I bought this amazing little instrument. With his help, I was able to find out that the mirror of the telescope was lost. I used this device and easily solved a problem I didn't even know I had. After that, the planets and stars became noticeably sharper. It changed the rules of the game. This simple quality device will change the way you see the universe. Literally.

Pros
  • Outstanding Overall Performance
Cons
  • Some Errors

No more boredom - accessories for telescopes and microscopes

Lasers make everything more exciting! The collimator has a variable brightness beam (from 1 to 7) adjustable by turning the ring at the end of the body. At higher powers this allows daylight collimation, however after tuning from 3 to 4 the beam is distorted into a short line rather than a round dot. At lower magnifications it becomes perfectly round. The beam is almost perfectly aligned, only the faintest edge appears on the target's white screen, but the adjustment holes are rubber-coated…

Pros
  • Ideal for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Reliability

Ok but needs alignment

As other reviewers have pointed out, this is not aligned. Also, as others have said, it was muted in the 1.25" focuser. I wrapped the barrel in teflon tape to hold it in place (not pipe thread). Then I had to get out the rubber stopper on the set screws. The alignment process is predictable but not clean as there is no spring tension requiring one screw to be removed to tighten the other. No surprise. One problem was that one of the set screws was very loose at the beginning. It was obviously…

Pros
  • Pretty packaging
Cons
  • Not sure
