Description of πŸ§— Tenaya Masai Unisex Climbing Shoe for Rock Climbing Enthusiasts

ASCENT & PROGRESSION - Founded in 1997 by Yosemite vet Jose Luis Garcia Gallego, Tenaya is famous for designs that blend performance and comfort without sacrifice; Tenayas are worn by pro climbers worldwide, like Chris Sharma, Alex Megos, and Ramon Julian, and have helped advance the sport on championship and record-breaking ascents. TENAYA MASAI - The most supportive shoe in the Tenaya line, the unisex Masai excels on vertical and moderately-overhanging route featuring small edges; The optimally-shaped, asymmetric toe-box concentrates all the power of the foot into a specific area, focusing your force onto the tiniest of holds and with superior control. DIME-EDGING MASTER - The Masai boasts a perfectly balanced set of features, with extreme precision on small edges, rounded holds, and cracks; The full-lace closure system adapts to a wide variation in foot widths; It’s the perfect combination of performance and lasting comfort. TECHNICAL SPECS - Uppers: Microfibre; Closure: SystemLace-up; Lining: TXT treated cotton; Insole: TST multi-layer Stretchtex; Midsole: 2D PLT 10; Sole: Vibram XS Grip 4 mm; Weight: 340 gr; 100% Vegan; Designed and Handmade in Spain. TIPS FOR SIZING - Climbing shoes fit differently with every brand and each unique model; Personal preference of tightness (based on climbing style, terrain, and comfort) is the biggest factor in determining the optimal shoe size; To start, Tenaya recommends downsizing 0-0.5 sizes from your US street shoe size for an all day fit and 0.5-1 sizes for a performance fit; Tenayas are constructed with synthetic materials designed to limit stretch, making sizing more predictable and consistent.

Too Expensive for Poor Quality

Using this product, our team found that the shoes didn't provide enough grip, causing slips and falls during our climb. The heel also didn't fit well, causing discomfort and an awkward fit. The only positive aspect was the appearance, but that doesn't make up for the lack of functionality. Sport and outdoors enthusiasts should invest in a different brand for their climbing needs.

Pros
  • Great fit and comfort for women's feet during climbing
Cons
  • Not suitable for beginners due to the aggressive design and stiff sole

Versatile Shoe - Climbing

I use the Tenaya Masai for steep rips, multi-pitch trails and as a solo touring shoe for international climbs. If you have an interest in climbing (traditional, sport, bouldering) and are looking for a shoe that goes with everything, then the Masai is for you. If bouldering and/or climbing is more your thing, check out the high-performing (and comfortable) Tenaya Mundaka.

Pros
  • DIME-EDGING MASTER - Masai has a perfectly balanced feature set with extreme precision on small edges, rounded toes and cracks; Full lacing system accommodates a variety of foot widths; It's the perfect combination of performance and long-term comfort
Cons
  • I'll be silent

The Best Shoes You Can Buy

The best pair of shoes I have ever owned. I've had the same pair for almost 4 years now and am so confident that I can smear on anything and get into nickel. My feet feel comfortable for hours. Now they are starting to get holes and it's time for new ones, but 4 years later and having replaced them once it makes sense. They are no longer yellow and my heel slips off the hard hooks (solved by tying the laces through the loops behind the foot) but these were wonderful shoes and I recommend them…

Pros
  • SIZING TIPS - Climbing shoes fit differently for each brand and unique model; Personal density preference (based on climbing style, terrain and comfort) is the most important factor in determining the optimal shoe size; To start, Tenaya recommends sizing your outdoor shoes 0-0.5 sizes smaller than your US street size for all-day wear and 0.5-1 size smaller for work purposes. Tenaya sneakers are made with synthetic materials that limit stretch and provide a more predictable and consistent fit.
Cons
  • Compatibility
