Nice, thick and light

Pretty decent skid plate, very easy to fit. Seems simple enough to think it could be a little cheaper. But I recommend if you don't have money for construction. Thick enough, it should offer good protection.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Broadly ok but...

Doesn't fit right

I'm used to changing things to make them fit so it wasn't a big deal for me. But you expect them to be able to make bolt holes in all the right places. Two of them went to great lengths to get to the threads and expected to use extra washers for the gaskets.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Negative

Works great with skid plate

We've been using this on a 1997 Jeep Wrangler TJ for about two years. This actually works very well. A note: We install this on the driver and passenger side with different screws. Make sure you remove the screw and washers, this will make the job a lot easier. Finally, use Loctite where it attaches to the body of the bell. These screws tend to loosen over time.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Something different

Easy assembly suitable for body and frame parts

Man save your oil pan. Get this for your JEEP CJ, TJ, Xj before the X's out of your oil pan and you're too far from the black top to recover. Easy to install, make sure to clean the screw holes very well with a wire brush. You can take a round wire brush and attach it to the cordless drill. Once you have removed all dirt, blow out the screw holes with compressed air and use anti-seize on all screws during installation. much luck.

Peace of mind good for fenders and covers

Very happy with my Terraflex oil pan skid plate. It is very well made and very easy to assemble. The instructions that came with it were correct for my 03 TJ and I had to use the bell body mount. The only thing I had trouble with was getting the damn bolt under the transmission cooler lines, at least I think so. I don't know if I'll ever need a skid, but I like knowing my sump is protected.

Pros
  • Certified
Cons
  • Minor issues

Use 3/8-16x1.25 bolts for 2002

These skids, despite decent packaging, arrived a bit dented with missing paint in one corner and flaking in many other places. My 2002 TJ 5 speed used the two included 3/8-16x1.25 bolts and I added two flat washers and a lock washer on each side. If your Jeep isn't spotless and rust-free, do yourself a favor and FIRST clean the engine bolt threads while you have room. Paint chippings aside, the jeep seems strong enough to be able to fall on it many times.

Pros
  • cool product
Cons
  • very expensive

Easy to install but instructions for 2004 were wrong

Easy to install but instructions say I need a bell housing mount for my 2004. I couldn't figure out where to put this extra bracket, but installed fine without it. The panel is installed using the existing screw holes. With a manual gearbox, unscrew the central screw on the bell housing cover. This was the only useful information I got from the guide. Haven't encountered any rocks yet, so I don't know how well it protects the oil pan, but looks like it's ok.

Pros
  • Hands free
Cons
  • Out of fashion

Easy Installation, No: Protective Covers

I really like the easy installation, but there are a few things that made it difficult. First, the box includes everything you need to install the sled. If they could label small gear packages, it would make life easier. There are a lot of bolts and washers because different TJ years require different bolts. Second, and this was key, the instructions said to clean the screw holes of rust and dirt. My 20 year old Jeep had clean brakes and the PB blaster couldn't handle them. I used the right…
