Product not working

I was trying to get my home video from a Sony Handycam to my Mac mini but I had a FireWire 400 cable and my Mac has a FireWire 800 -Connection. I bought this adapter to connect but the Mac doesn't see the Handycam. The cable is good (I use it regularly on my PC) so I think the adapter is the problem. On the Apple forums others have stated that they have successfully used the same Handycam to transfer to their Mac Minis.

Pros
  • IEEE 1394 Compatible Firwire Adapter (Black)
Cons
  • Weak Kit

Quality solution for legacy connectors

This adapter was required to connect an old Apple FireWire camera to a MacBook. The device fits snugly between the FireWire port and the computer port. Camera connects well

Pros
  • Works with standard 6-pin FW400 male cables
Cons
  • Damaged

Cheap Cables and Connectors

Cheaply made. I haven't tested it with a speed test, but my data transfer speed with this adapter is noticeably slower than with just a FireWire cable. It's big enough to fit in my MBP's port, but small enough to fall out regularly. Not ideal when using target disk mode as it may result in data loss. Save your $.

Pros
  • Connecting FireWire 400 Devices to FireWire 800 Ports
Cons
  • Will be added later

Excellent 400/80 adapter

My iMac has a FireWire 400 input and my external hard drive has an 800 output Go Firewire 400 work fine. Cheap repair but the adapter appears to be of good quality

Pros
  • 9 pin (FW800) to 6 pin (FW400) adapter
Cons
  • disappears
