I noticed that the spare tire on my 1999 Silverado was seriously melted from my exhaust pipe. I suspect the muffler shop placed the pipe closer to my tire than the original. I bought it to protect my new tire. It is beautifully designed and easy to install. Looking at the materials and design I'm pretty sure this will help.

Heat is the enemy of automotive fluid, so I felt the need to protect it. Use this handy little heat shield. Seems to cover my pipe adequately while providing thermal protection. I was a bit hesitant to buy this as I wasn't sure if it would suit my needs, but they do have larger sizes too.

Bought for the x side where the exhaust runs alongside the engine (there is an alternator kit) man it gets hot. should be able to bypass the heat shield and pipe and block most of the heat from the water pump and generator, just wish it was half the length. Great product after reading about it. comes with 3 long good quality cable ties that go through some nice heavy duty clips that are riveted on. a bit pricey but I think it's one of those things you get what you pay for.
