🚽 The Ultimate Solution: Thetford Porta Potti 550P MSD Portable Toilet (92856) Review

I was told just buy a Thetford from MSD and you're done. Great product easy to install. I installed this product in my Searay, it fits perfectly. Tether is included, don't know how I missed it, Thetford have great customer service, called for help and it was all in one call.

I used this on a boat for a long trip. It worked very well! Thetford could have done a lot better with their custom installation instructions and how a bilge pump works. I bought rubber plugs for ventilation and exhaust pipes.

Works great, just wish I could use the same brackets and holes as my last Thetford Porta Potti (it was 15 years old). Getting older and needed a higher toilet. Well not that old but at 2am the 10 inch potty port is hard to reach. It is much easier. Shame on Thetford for not maintaining compatibility. And as an engineer, there was no reason other than moral obsolescence.

The 550P MSD is well made and performs well. I'm a little worried about the reliability of the clamping mechanism as it's pretty light. The time will show. So far, so good. It replaces the smaller Thetford Porta Potti, which we were very happy with, so I'm optimistic. The instructions aren't as clear as they could have been before, but in hindsight it's okay. Irony. If you want your boat cabin to be covered with feces, buy this toilet. The clips are cheap flexible plastic and do not secure the toilet. Since Thetford sells this toilet, they could probably make stainless steel brackets. The toilet itself is nothing but cheap plastic, I doubt it will last very long and I suspect it will get dirty quickly. I believe the manufacturing cost of this device is less than $20.
