The way to expensive but necessary coatings for hydrophobicity.

The Thinktank Hydrophobia rain cover is available in several sizes and offers rain protection. They are of excellent quality and will last for many years. To attach the rain cover to the camera, the rain cover is fitted around an eyepiece that attaches the rain cover to the camera. The actual lids are of fair value, but the eyelids are just details. This is for the Nikon D4/D500 and is screwed into the viewfinder frame instead of the glass cover. They're awkward to install due to the thin…

Thin plastic threads that are difficult to screw in

Purchased with a Hydrophobia D 70-200 V3 raincoat for my D850. The eyepiece threads are plastic, very thin, and while Nikon eyepieces screw in nicely, EP-NSI eyepieces are tight, making it hard to tell if it's cross-threaded. Even when properly screwed into the case, due to the tight fit, a small amount of plastic will scrape off and potentially end up inside the case. And since they are made of plastic, they are easily damaged. I've always used a Nikon DK-17M eyepiece on my camera and it's…

Plastic is expensive, glass is not included, but it works.

This eyepiece actually looks more like an extension tube and doesn't actually have a built-in glass eyepiece (the second picture of the article shows a DK-17 eyepiece with no magnification, the one on an EP-NSI). You need to take out your normal eyepiece, mount it on this adapter and then mount the combination on the camera.
