Buyer Beware: Radios

The tuner on these radios has a serious manufacturing defect. Radios are built with a small analog variable tuning capacitor, which becomes a problem after a few years. What happens is that the rotor/shaft of the capacitor is structurally connected to the ground of the tuner circuit. Between the shaft and the bearing that makes the electrical connection to ground for this capacitor is a lubricant that will degrade over time, resulting in a poor electrical connection, resulting in a very squeaky

I couldn't decide between the Tivoli Model One and the Sangean WR-11 so I bought both to compare. Here are my random thoughts: Tivoli could be a bit louder. The Tivoli has a much brighter sound but can be a bit harsh at times. The Sangean is too bass-heavy to hear at low volumes. The Tivoli works well in a quiet office environment as you can hear at very low volumes and still hear everything, while the Sangean hums even at low volumes. Rating changed from 3 to 4 stars: Update November 2018: I sent the original unit back about a year ago and have been using the Sangean SW11 ever since. But while the Sangean is a good radio, the vocals aren't very clear, so I bought another Tivoli Model One and it doesn't seem to have the drift and sticky tuner knob that the first unit had.
