REPLACING A WORN SANDING BLOCK

Bought a "black" sanding block at a local store. The rubber was so hard that you couldn't bend the edges to insert the sandpaper. means really old and well used) lock it up and expect many years of use. Black is discarded.

  • Good Value
Cons
  • Expensive

good tool. Poor quality control

If you're looking for soft blacks, then you've got it! No frills easy to use with a but. I didn't test it before using it. One of the nails is too high and went through the block into my hand. User stupidity, but also poor quality control. Just be careful and check the depth of the nail before use.

  • Great for me
Cons
  • Some trouble

Love this sanding block - as good or better than 3M

I had a similar 3M sharpening stone but for some reason it was out of place. I found a generic version that was similar but much more difficult to use. In fact, the rubber was so hard you could barely lift it to put sandpaper on it. I bought it and crossed my fingers. It was perfect! So easy to use!

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Not the best

Sanding Block Super

Reminds me of the sanding blocks I used to use. It holds the paper securely and feels very comfortable in the hand, making any sanding job that much easier - if at all possible. I used mine to finish sanding a wall that I had recently restored and primed. I found that the circular sanding eliminated the back and forth marks left by the sandpaper. Very happy with the results.

  • Absolute Legend
Cons
  • Unreliable

Crack the tabs for holding the sandpaper!

I like this sanding block. It's simple, but it works. My problem with these is that the rubber is so hard you can't secure the paper. This is flexible enough to be usable. Because they're rubbery, they're great for wet sanding. The downside to these blocks is that after a few uses, the rubber tabs that lift up to hold the sandpaper in place will break. That makes them somewhat useless.

Pros
  • Everything is fine!

  • Little things

Great sanding block

Oddly enough I thought I was going to get a rubber sanding block that said 'Tool Aid' but it clearly says 3M on the top. There are no issues, however, and the rubber is malleable enough to lift the sandpaper and suck into the metal tips to hold it. I have medium to small hands so the sanding block is the perfect size; Actually a little bigger for my hand so I wouldn't worry about the block size being too small. I use it for sanding the flat parts of the headlight lenses and small scratches onโ€ฆ

Good Sanding Block in Hand Tools

These are some of my favorite sanding blocks; I've been using these for decades. My biggest issue is that it's a bit difficult to load the paper tightly with minimal loosening. Also, the work surface is nominally 5 inches long (my blocks are actually 4 7/8 inches) and the strip of sandpaper is 9 inches long, so only 55.55% paper is used. I try to use the leftover pieces of sandpaper. (under the valves) for manual grinding. I would like someone to redesign this suction cup and make it 6" long to

Good durable rubber

There is some weight to this block. It's a bit small for big hands, but that's the size and type of block that's always been around. I cut out some cheap sandpaper and stuck it in a block and it held securely. The flaps lift easily, the nails are sharp and will poke through paper, and a stubborn thumb is fine. I like this block because the rubber is "alive" and has a suppleness, not a harshness. The bottom is smooth, there are no flatness problems. The block has no chemical smell. It appears to

Exactly what I was looking for

Finally. It seems like every company has tried to improve upon the simple rubber backing pad that has been around for over 50 years. I haven't found an "improved" version that I like better than the old rubber original. It's like Goldilocks and the Three Bears. One is almost hard plastic instead of rubber, another is rubber but too hard, third has indentations in the sanding surface, third is so hard that sandpaper can't get into the ends, etc. The last good one, that I had was made by 3M andโ€ฆ

  • The best in my niche
