Holds a sharp edge. I am happy with this

I'm happy with it Bought to complement my current Marple set. I have it nice and sharp. It's great for getting into those weird dovetail corners for trimming corner pieces without cutting off more than you want. I'll say that, and I don't think it's a fault of the chisel, the edges are sharp, so if you hold it along the edge of the metal, the edges are sharp. I never thought I'd get a cut like this, but just sand it down a bit and it's perfect. Firstly I want it to have a cap to protect the tip

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Not bad, but...

The cross-section of this chisel is not square

This is the cheapest 1/8" chisel I could find ($8). It's not very good, but it's adequate for most tasks. As someone else pointed out (and posted a photo), the cross section of this bit isn't exactly square. Depending on what you want to do with it, this can be a problem. I wouldn't recommend it for chiselling. It wasn't sharp and the edge wasn't perpendicular to the chisel. The back end is acceptable and took me about 15 minutes to fix and sharpen. It will work as a hammer until I decide to…

  • Works great for me

lucky? I think?

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Oman I have recently received a number of disgusting products and expected this one to break as it is a tiny little guy. And given the lack of protection for almost all of the products in their packaging, I assumed that these could be damaged, perhaps beyond my willingness to "grind". Hahaha! nope This thing only had a plastic cart (?) like the plastic boxes you see in big stores, so IOW is completely open and wrapped with other hard metal surfaces. and sharp! Haha how?!

Pros
  • Hands free operation
Cons
  • Very expensive

Good steel for the price

Seems to be decent steel although I don't like the plastic handle a bit. It just feels slightly to me, as if it could be thin and hollow. (They say it's a lifetime warranty.) Other than that, the design is good and the price is really good. You're not actually going to hit that little chisel, so it should be fine. I bought this to complete a set of much better chisels because they don't sell small ones. It seems to be a good entry-level woodworking tool. After using this tool a little more, I…

Not as pictured; Better replacement than original purchase

I have a set of four Marples Blue Chip chisels that I have used for several years. It was a pleasure to use them. Based on this experience, I ordered the chisel shown in the photo to remove some of the grooves that were too small for 1/4". What I received was similar to the picture shown but not quite the same. Even more disappointing was that the sides were not perpendicular to the front or back of the bit. To Irwin's credit, when I contacted Irwin about the quality and provided the three…

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Non automatic

Not like it used to be

I'm a bit disappointed with this chisel. I have some old Marples chisels (not Irwin-Marples) and am comparing them. First, the sharp end was not perpendicular to the sides. It's only 1/8 inch wide and the end isn't square! It was sharpening and not a lot of work getting things aligned and sharpened. The back was pretty flat. Not sure if it's just because it's such a narrow chisel, but it seemed too easy to sharpen. I will know if the blade is soft when I use it. I also HATE that the handle is…
