Water resistance is next to non-existent...

I love the Topa brand and this is my fourth pair. These shoes are nowhere near as waterproof as the previous pair of Topas. I don't expect or speak of being waterproof when running in a creek, it's just that your feet won't get wet when running on wet grass or wet trails. I still love them for my dry running days but definitely not waterproof or stable!

    Pros
    • I don't often write reviews, but I was very impressed with this purchase. Fits exactly very comfortably. Great
    Cons
    • May be more expensive compared to other running shoes on the market.

The best running shoes I've ever had.

I've been running since school and have tried many running shoes. Topo is by far my favorite shoe I've tried. I do a lot of trail running and the outsole provides ample traction and protection. I am newly converted to topo.

    Pros
    • Super comfy, love the wide toe box for my amazingly flat feet
    Cons
    • The 5mm drop can be uncomfortable for some runners and cause discomfort over time.

    Disappointed best in my rating

I am very disappointed with the new version of this shoe. The upper is stiff with less cushioning and it uncomfortably cuts into my ankles. The shoe's upper is more finely meshed and you can clearly see the outlines of my big toenails. It seems to be quite a thin top. Of course I can no longer find the original in my size. I'm not sure why they had to go and ruin an absolutely great shoe.

    Pros
    • Crafted from lightweight materials, these shoes offer comfort and mobility for long periods of time.
    Cons
    • The upper is not water-repellent, which makes running in wet conditions uncomfortable.

Piglets move freely, but the metatarsal heads scream and moan

I bought these men's shoes because I'm a wide footed girl who is tired of being squeezed into shoes that aren't in the shape of a foot. I had to send these shoes back. I had room under my toes. Unfortunately, as always a problem for me, the manufacturer forgets that people often have a wider metatarsal head. Who Needs Bones? No one! The 5th mountain hit the heads pressed against the top of the shoe and those heads sat right on the corner edge of the shoe platform. This gets painful fast! They…

    Pros
    • Size 11 must be returned.
    Cons
    • The bright color scheme may not suit every personal style.

I'm a big fan of the Altra Lone Peak series. When they changed the fit to the Lone Peak 6 I looked for an alternative. Topo Athletic is often cited with a similar design. I really like the aesthetics of the Mtn Racer 2. I love the color and the stylish look. I could do without the markings on the outsole. There is less room in the forefoot compared to the Lone Peak, but I had enough room to feel comfortable and free. The outsole was pleasantly plush - not the plush Altra Olympus, but more so…

    Pros
    • With the signature roomy toe box, your toes have plenty of room to splay, reducing the risk of blisters or other foot problems.
    Cons
    • The minimal insole cushioning may not be enough for those who need extra support and comfort.

If you like Altra, you'll love these

They have had 2 runs so far so this is not a long term review but more of a quick review of the fit and perceived construction. If you are an Altra lover, I highly recommend you try them out. The toe box is wide but a LITTLE narrower peak, NBD. I really appreciate how well the heel locks with the topos. For the construction, the stitching feels more solid and the Vibram outsole holds up better than the stock Altra in my experience. Altra uses Vibram on their expensive Olympus 4 and it's without

    Pros
    • Most comfortable trail running shoe ever! I have wide feet and they fit perfectly.
    Cons
    • The "Mango/Black" color scheme may not be universal for easy customization.

    Poor forefoot protection

Pros: Wide forefoot, good but not great stability. Cons: Grip is not as expected and forefoot protection is poor. Not recommended for the price

    Pros
    • With a 5mm drop, these shoes offer a natural and efficient stride while reducing stress on joints and muscles.
    Cons
    • They are narrower than other running shoes on the market, which can be uncomfortable for people with wider feet.

    Excellent construction

I've been wearing Altras for three years now and they are excellent except that the outsole seems to wear out quickly and the rubber toe guard tends to peel off. I found out about Topos through the YouTube channel (Homemade Wanderlust). I bought some topos from REI to see if they are as good as the altras. They're comfortable, but I haven't tried them on the track yet. I can walk in my Altras all day. I hope I feel the same way about topos.

    Pros
    • The Topo Athletic Men's MTN Racer 2 has a durable and grippy outsole that offers excellent traction on any surface.
    Cons
    • Heel support may not be sufficient for runners who need additional ankle support due to injury or weakness.

The first break is good for me

I love Topo and I love her. First my feet had to adjust to a higher drop (I usually use 0 or 3mm on them), 5mm is way too much. After some breaking in I use them for long walks or to lug stuff. Extremely comfortable and relieves your feet. Excellent balance between low drop and cushioning.

    Pros
    • These running shoes offer excellent stability while improving balance and coordination on uneven surfaces.
    Cons
    • It may take time for users to get used to the 5mm height difference, causing discomfort and possible injury.

    So far so good!

For reference, I run a lot of trails and roads - usually between 50 and 80 km. I've run a lot of marathons (for real) and ultras. I usually run in Altras (Lone Peaks, Torins, Superiors, Escalantes, etc.) and used to run in Topos. I love these sneakers. They're a little stiff, not uncomfortable but not as flexible as the Lone Peaks, and the padding is firm (not hard, but not soft either). The processing quality makes a solid impression. I've only done two runs in them so far but the grip is…

    Pros
    • The reinforced upper improves the shoe's durability and ensures it can withstand the toughest trails and harshest conditions.
    Cons
    • Not suitable for those with flat feet or high arches as there is no additional support for these foot types.

Super comfortable - my new test report

Nice shoes. Comfortable from start to finish. I walk miles and wear them to work. And Vibram soles wear like iron. I can buy another one

    Pros
    • The removable 5mm insole allows you to customize the interior of the shoe to your specific foot shape and support needs.
    Cons
    • Some users report a lack of durability, causing the shoe to wear out quickly.

    Topo did it again

Great shoe for trail running, I love the anatomical Topo shoes and feel almost as nimble as a mountain goat in this pair. Ordered my normal size and they fit perfectly.

    Pros
    • Designed for trail running, the Topo Athletic Men's MTN Racer 2 Running Shoes offer ultimate performance and comfort over challenging terrain.
    Cons
    • Not available in larger or smaller sizes

    Revainrating 5 out of 5

Lightweight, roomy toe box, surprisingly supportive.

Known for their roomy toe box and light weight, the Topo will not disappoint. What surprised me is how comfortable and comfortable the soles are. This is possibly the most fitting and comfortable shoe I have ever had.

    Pros
    • The men's MTN Racer 2 by Topo Athletic is a solid choice for runners who value comfort, impressive performance and style.
    Cons
    • May not be suitable for overpronating runners as it offers minimal stability.
