Nice little home theater DAC

I use it on my desktop PC, although it works just as well when connected to a Raspberry PI and home stereo. There's no hum/hiss, it's dead silence. Sounds good, no sound coloration.

Reliable plug and forget adapter

I needed a reliable USB->S/PDIF adapter for my laptop and while this unit is a full DAC it offers this functionality at a good price. The display is an added bonus, showing real-time status at the bit rate the PC is broadcasting.

Sounds great - not sure about the build quality.

The D10S is a simple device: plug in USB, plug in line-level cable, done. I hooked up this DAC to an old Marantz 2230B and it sounds great except for one thing - the circuit board inside seems to have detached itself from the case so the whole box (mechanically) resonates at higher volumes. BZZZZ, BZZZZ, BZZZZ. I plan on returning this unit, will update when a new one arrives. Not fancy, just works well. Entry-level audiophile DAC.

This thing is minimal in terms of options but high quality in terms of components. It has 1 ESS Saber chip which is the best DAC chip under $1000. ESS Saber is the same chip as in my MOTU audio interface, it's professional quality. This little guy has 1 chip, a display, RCA output and digital passthrough, that's it. Other more expensive DACs may have more I/O, bells and whistles, maybe 2 chips, but you may not need it. The display is great, I finally know exactly how fast my music actually…

Effective sound! So easy!

Super DAC! I can't be happier. First Comments; On Windows 10 it works straight away. No drivers, so dedicated software. Just plug in and get started. All you have to do is make sure your device's advanced settings match the quality of the music you're playing through it. Also note that this (or any other) DAC will improve sound quality if you already have good speakers (or headphones). However USB is noisy (though not at normal listening levels)

Like almost all "USB DACs" this one shows ground loop noise from your computer. If you stop the song and turn the volume all the way up, you'll hear a hiss, like a high-frequency, randomly changing noise. Again, normal listening to the speaker is fine. I only mention this as information for those who need a completely silent system. it's not like this. Haven't tried changing this yet, but I suspect if I can find a serial SPDIF connection between USB-RX and DAC I could put in a pulse transformer
