Description of TORCHSTAR Ultra Thin Recessed Dimmable Downlight: Industrial Electrical Lighting Component for Efficient Illumination

💡Ultra Slim Design: This LED recessed ceiling light’s ultra-thin construction only needs 2 inches of ceiling space clearance, perfect for use in narrow ceilings that can’t fit a can. The solidly built metal spring clip creates stronger clamping for easier installs and longer-lasting lifespans. 💡Reliable Waterproofing: This LED’s unique waterproof male and female connectors make this perfect for use in wet locations. IC rated, this slim LED downlight’s junction box is thermally protected and can have insulation come into contact with it. This means you don’t have to worry about our recessed lights overheating and causing a fire in the roof or an overhead joist space. 💡Widely Application: The smooth 100%-10% dimming lets you easily adjust the brightness and this light is compatible with most dimmers on the market. The 100° beam angle and CRI of 90 makes this light perfect for use in closets, kitchens, hallways, doorways and even basements. 💡Certified High-efficiency: ETL & Energy Star certified, JA8 & T24 compliant, this panel light only needs 7W to produce 400lm compared to a 35W incandescent light, saving you $739.20 per set over its 40,000hrs lifespan. The LED’s frosted lens prevents glare and is scratch resistant. 💡Guaranteed Quality: This light fits all new construction, remodels and retrofit installations. The aluminum light body ensures its 40,000hrs lifespan and is backed by a 5-year warranty that gives you extra protection.

I like them - Electrical

They are relatively easy to install, you can't keep the cables in a small box and the cable connector they give should be a bit longer (in my opinion ) but the advice I have given should not put you off buying these lamps, they are good value for money and they also work well with a slide dimmer. Durability? No idea, just installed.

Pros
  • Don't waste too much time

  • Some cons

The light does not match your local AHJ

This light does not have a one hour fire rating. Does not mean electrical regulations are required. Torchstar cannot confirm that the flashlight itself has a fire rating of one hour. I also contacted ATL because the flashlight starlight is flame retardant for an hour as they don't even know what they are testing for this light is non compliant.

2 7/8 " Hole Saw

Overall I am very pleased with these lights. The hole pattern is metric. You can use a 3" hole saw, but 2-7/8" gives a tighter fit. Than When I first connected them to my Lutron dimmer the light just went to maximum and I assumed they weren't compatible with Lutron dimmers, however by swapping the live wires top to bottom and vice versa the dimmer worked.

Large Lamp Set

These lamps offer excellent light output and colour. I didn't give them 5 stars for only one reason and that could be due to the dimmer I use. When I turn off the light, they glow dimly and flicker. This may not be due to the lamps themselves, but to their interaction with the dimmer. I've also installed larger 4" LED lights and they don't light up or flicker when I turn them off with the same dimmer. I will have to do a little searching to solve this problem.

  • Hands Free
Cons
  • Very Expensive

Brighter than expected

Very bright I normally calculate around 1.5W/sq. foot, but that's too bright for this equation. I think you could get 1 W/sq. Feet or 40 square feet per fixture with these fixtures. I use a manufacturer recommended $22 Lutron LED specialty dimmer and they won't turn on with that specialty dimmer on the lowest setting. There's a delay when it's turned on at every level, from two seconds in very low light to barely noticeable in the brightest light. However, I like the ease of installation and…

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • Can't remember

The only comment I have is that the junction box only has 1/2 KO on each side and only 3/8 KO on the end. The typical strain relief connector here is rated at 3/8Nm and is used in 1/2KO. Since they are only located on the side, this condition creates a problem when, after making the wire connections, it becomes very difficult to assemble them through the required hole in the panel. The connection is already very strong and the wire on the side only complicates the task. This is possible because
