Reliable and simple DVD player

I've had this player for about 5 years, it's a real fighter. It was easy to set up and use. The only problems with "Disc Error" stem from the fact that burned discs may be over-compressed or have too new a codec for it. However, one of the positives I have found with this unit is the excellent sound quality I get when using the optical output with my component stereo. The only drawback: With almost every DVD, like with a record, a second of sound is skipped at the very beginning of the playback

Update: Just retired but still going strong!

This is an update of my previous review (December 2002). I bought this DVD player in May 2002, almost 2 years ago. I just removed it from ebay (moved to a Toshiba SD-H400 DVD/Tivo unit). But I was sorry that this one was gone! It has always worked flawlessly for me. It played every disc I put in including, despite my prior checking, DVD+R and +RW discs I burned on my PC (didn't test DVD-R or -RW). I've never had a single problem with the player and actually miss its Enhanced Black Level feature

And the price was more than reasonable considering what you get with this particular DVD player. When I received the player it was very easy to install (considering I'm not an electronics expert) and use it the first time. Audio and video connectors are color-coded so there is minimal chance of error. What I liked was the…
