It did not work: Surge Protectors

I bought this to protect our computer from a piece of hardware and we had a power surge and this unit still works but the USB to RS232 DB9 serial adapter was damaged. Basically, the device did not work.

Pros
  • REVERSIBLE SLAM OR FEMALE DB9 PORTS: The device can be configured for use with any 9-pin male or female connectable serial port.
Cons
  • Nothing

. It will protect against lightning, but so far it works fine in the system.

Luckily I haven't had to find out if it protects against lightning, but so far it's working fine in the system. Didn't cause any problems when adding to the string.

Pros
  • LIMITED LIFETIME WARRANTY: This standard built-in Datashield surge protector is backed by a Lifetime Limited Warranty.
Cons
  • So-so

Smaller, simpler, best surge protector

Depending on what you're mounting it to, you may need to remove and swap out the screws holding it to the device, but that's very easy to do do (and mentioned in the manual). Installation was pretty darn easy. Ideally, I'll never know if this actually works, but I've learned the hard way that lightning surges can get down unprotected RS-232 lines, and I have an expensive audio preamp that has suffered the consequences, so here it is lesson learned.

Pros
  • FULL PROTECTION: Protects against ESD, faulty wiring and lightning strikes
Cons
  • Vulgarity
