For weeks I struggled to keep rats out of my parrot cage on our pool deck. Yes I remove all leftover food etc and even cover the cage with a lid and tie the bottom floor with string to close the bottom. However, the next day the rats still fall into the lower bowl and leave waste there. I had to bring the whole cage inside to protect my bird from diseases. After all, I look for a safe route everywhere, especially we have owls in our neighborhood and I didn't want to destroy them in the process.
