Good to have: air pumps

I woke up around 3am to find the electricity had gone out. Looking at the utility company's website, I was told that the power had been off since 2am and there was no information on when it would be restored. a few months later. Fumbling around in the dark, I found the pump and a couple of D batteries and started it up. I don't know how long it takes for a fish to go into distress in a 60 gallon aquarium without aeration, but I definitely felt better knowing that some air movement was going on.

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • No automatic

Great price for a great battery operated air pump

I ordered 4 of these pumps to transport 4 medium sized goldfish from my old apartment to my new home. I bought a 5g blue lidded pail from Lowe's. One pump was enough to get the job done, but I'm glad I have extras on hand. A stone creates an impressive bubble distribution and the batteries in the pump last all day. The controls are simple and the clip on the pump allowed me to clip it to the side of the bucket for easy portability. If you use a bucket like I do, I would suggest drilling a holeโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Something different

Use good batteries and bring extra ones!

I needed these bubblers for a long trip from New York to Florida that took about 18 hours in total. They are a bit noisy but I had music on the whole trip so I didn't hear it. I tried using them on my two fish that I took with me and it didn't work. I bought a huge pack of new batteries for them and figured I wouldn't have to use them as the description here says they last 40 hours or so. Even new, high-quality batteries run out very quickly. I changed the batteries twice in each of the twoโ€ฆ
