Much better than the bear canister. Only 8 ounces is 6 times lighter. XL is the best size for real mountaineering. You don't need an almighty when you hang a bear with this bag. They work together.

This bag is very light for hiking and easy to hang. The only downside for us is that some parks still require a canister. Visit the Ursack website for a list of parks where you can use it. We therefore strongly recommend that you check whether you can take it with you.

It's hard to say how good it is when the bear doesn't fit. I hang it on trees out of reach of the grizzly. If a black bear gets it, it will be a test. It's very light and fits well in my backpack, holds all my groceries easily and is quite water resistant.

I have both a hard emergency canister and a backpack, which is lighter and easier to throw in a backpack. I love the flexibility of the Ursack and the lace is a plus making it easier to tie to a pole or tree. It's well done but hopefully doesn't need to be tested on any critters.
