UPDATE: The company has requested photos and details of the damage. They also refunded me the purchase price. The entire length of the cable is hot. The end of the phone adapter was charred and the plastic melted after only 3 weeks of use. There is an 18-month guarantee on the packaging. I tried to contact both the manufacturer and Amazon. No luck. I don't want to return the whole 3 pack. But maybe that's what I do.

I have tested all three cables to ensure that the problem is not unique to the first one. All three cables exhibited the same characteristics: intermittent ability to connect to my laptop and update the iPad Pro, and when unplugged (after proper "pull" procedure) all cables made a clicking/crackling noise.
