Wow that kid is loud! If you plan to blow hard, plug your ears with your fingers first! No kidding, my ears hurt it's so loud! Great for boats (most states require a signaling device). I have bought and compared the following whistles: 1. Whistle Fox 40 Sonik Blast CMG (red)2. Acme 636 safety whistle (black)3. UST Marine JetScream Whistle (Yellow) I compared three of these in the video (in that order). I think the Acme 636 safety whistle is the best fit due to its small size, loud sound and price. I like that this whistle doesn't have a 'pea' to rattle. I also like its slim profile that fits perfectly into my backpack's shoulder straps. The Fox brand rescue whistle, while pealess, is thicker and more difficult to attach, more cumbersome and bulkier to fit on a backpack. I have both The Fox 40 whistle can - and this is a subjective opinion - be a bit louder than this whistle. But they are close enough that this whistle's slim design helps me use it on the trail.
