I bought this shaving oil to use with Dr. carver. Van Der Hagen shaving oil is $2 cheaper than Dr. Comparatively large carvers that I can buy online or from an online shaving club. Van Der Hagen shaving oil smells nicer, which is the first thing I noticed. The product is just as easy to apply, but does not leave a slippery feeling on the skin of the face. No more shaving foam in my mouth! I love this product. Nice to use. However, they suggest that you can apply it after shaving for an aftershave lotion. I wouldn't recommend leaving an oil based product on your face, that sounds like an acne and clogged pore disaster. Also, your face gets too wet from water, it's better to dry your face after shaving, and I apply unscented lubricating lotion after shaving. You can also use it as an aftershave, but lube is cheaper. Was looking for an alternative to Trader Joe's Mango Shaving Cream and gave this a try. (I don't feel comfortable buying Trader Joe's oil.) Van Der Hagen oil doesn't moisturize or promote a close shave. I find my razor to bounce and stick to this product even though I use it more or less. Maybe it works better for facial shaving, but I'm a woman and it didn't help me much. My search continues.

I bought this because I was fed up with subscription services and Dr. Carver from the Dollar Shave Club. It's comparable, but didn't really convince me. The big difference is that it washes off almost immediately, while Dr. Carvers stays in place long enough to shave. It doesn't go that far either, I felt like I had to pick up 3x more to cover the same area. It smells really nice, but I'm not entirely sure if it's hypoallergenic.

Stuff is great as long as it's fresh enough, by the time it's a year old it has a weird musty smell. also it has a great smell and it leaves my face completely wet, i don't even need to use it after shaving because it smells very good on its own but not a very strong smell, it reminds me of english skin but far from such a strong and lingering smell. This shaving oil is by far the best shaving oil. gel/foam/etc that I was experimenting with at the time. A coin-sized amount in hand covers the entire face.
