Viair compressor is better than Vixen

I had a Vixen compressor for 5 months. It went wrong. Should have bought these first. Vixen bugged me and let me pay for the return shipping even though I knew what part I needed for the repair. Vixen said they didn't have any spare parts! So this Viair pump (as you can see in the photos) is bigger and heavier. I will update if this doesn't continue. But he has better ratings than Vixen Horn's trash. buy Viair.

Pros
  • Wow
Cons
  • Big and bulky

Doesn't seem to last

I replaced my JD 1760 planter with a $700 John Deere planter. It failed the following year, but JD didn't guarantee it since it was a year old, so I replaced it with a Viair 450c (identical to John Deere). The new Viair unit didn't seem to pump air from the get-go. I tried contacting the manufacturer for help but never got a reply so every time I filled the planter last year I had to refill the planter. I think I'll try again in spring but I'm not very optimistic.

Pros
  • Great overall performance
Cons
  • Really like nothing, everything is fine

So far so good, UPDATE: EXCELLENT

First impression after installation is very good. The quality looks really good for the price. Used this to replace a Vixen pump which was just a problem. This one is much quieter, better built and pumps much faster. Will be updated after about a week of use. Update: It's been 4 weeks since installation and I haven't had any problems. Tests have shown that it fills about 3 times faster than Vixen and only takes about 2 minutes to adjust the pressure in my 7 gallon tank from 115psi to 140psiโ€ฆ

Works well, heats up easily, won't turn on below 40 degrees

This compressor is currently working very well on my 5 gallon air horn setup. Tank. A couple of complaints, the compressor gets uncomfortably hot even on first start (there will likely be a cooling fan installed to move air across the fins) and the compressor doesn't like to turn on when the temperature drops below 40 degrees. Remember that it will install itself in the truck's toolbox. I hope the heat issue doesn't affect durability or performance.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Not sure

Seems pretty tough on tires and wheels

This replaces a small Firestone compressor and 1/2 gallon tank in an RV filled with airbags. I installed this with a 2 gallon tank for air bags to fill tires after deflation and to run an air pressurized potable water system. I used a 90psi/120psi pressure switch on a 30 amp fused circuit from the bus batteries. Claimed 100% duty cycle; We will see. I'm going to Baha and I'm sure there will be many uses for it. It's installed in one of the bottom storage compartments, so I like the remote mount

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Reliability

So far, so good. fits accessories and parts

Edit: Desert season has started and I was finally able to use this on my truck. Bleed down and back twice at 4265/75/r16 and it worked great. But be sure to warm up! Enough to burn my hand if I touched it for more than a second, but it never turned off, so it was clearly working as intended. It took about 1 minute for the air to go from 20psi to 32psi. At least some advice. If you're not hooking this up to a tank I would suggest adding a mechanical relief valve to the air line as this thingโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Great construction
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
