My child finds it difficult to get on its feet. The elastic backing doesn't really stretch, so I think it's more for keeping it in the water. It will be necessary to see how they behave in operation. When it arrived it was packed in 2 bags possibly to hide the horrible smell. As soon as I opened the first bag, I could smell the chemicals. I'm currently keeping it in the sun to see if it helps remove the smell. I would return them but I need them and don't have time to go back and get a new pair

These water shoes started great! Perfect even! BUT after 2 days of wearing (my girl doesn't play rough either. I'm talking about a typical 6 year old girl running around in the pool and on the beach) she developed a hole in her toe. At the end of the third day of vacation, the soles of both shoes were completely detached and both toes were wide open. The sole came out of both shoes. They were in disarray and completely useless!
