WD does it again - Poor software performance

I bought this for a backup drive. When delivered, my 8-year-old laptop saw a floppy disk drive. The WD drive link to download WD Discovery does not work. It has been reported several times that we are having connection problems, please try again. After the third try, I downloaded the program from their website. My drive could not be displayed. Wanted me to backup to Dropbox. I uninstalled and reinstalled all WD programs. Same result. I gave up a used Windows 10 backup. Worked fine, found SSD…

Fast and tiny external SSD

Just received yesterday but so far so good. It's a little smaller than I expected but works well! It does seem to heat up a bit on intense recordings, but I have no experience with other discs of this style to compare it to. Warm, but I wouldn't feel hot. The design is nice and it looks great on my desk with my Mac Mini. The included USB-C cable is damn short. Probably fine if you use it as a portable drive you take with you, but for me it stays connected to my Mac Mini for my photo, music and…

Pros
  • USB 3.2 Gen-2 and USB-C (USB-A for older systems) cross compatible
Cons
  • Lots of stuff

WOW! I am impressed!

I am very impressed and VERY satisfied. First, I haven't needed an external hard drive for a long time. I had an old 5200RPM USB 2.0 external drive. It held up well for years, but I didn't like pulling the USB adapter out of my MacBook Pro (with USB-C) and large video files were too slow to Transfer. So I was looking for a fast and light USB-C compatible portable drive. When I found the WD My Passport SSD I was very impressed! This thing fits in the palm of my hand and is about 4 credit cards…

Pros
  • Shock and vibration resistant. Drop resistant up to 1.98m
Cons
  • Only available in black

Untrusted - corrupts your data

This disc is not secure. I've used Western Digital hard drives for years with no problems, but without proper product development/quality control they seem to have gotten on the SSD train too quickly. It started corrupting my data from day one. The drive itself does not detect bad sectors, and running CHKDSK and performing a low-level format has no effect. Based on the symptoms I've observed (corrupt blocks in image files, weird color blocking in PDFs, etc.), I suspect the drive is just…

Pros
  • Password with AES 256-bit hardware encryption enabled

  • Boring packaging
