ATTENTION! Disposable item

Attention! This product uses a tip that is no longer manufactured. I have this device and while it does the job I bought it for (simple soldering wires), the tips burn out very, very quickly and need to be replaced after only 20 or 30 minutes of use. I've spent a long time searching online for replacement tips and the new tips advertised for the 7200 do not fit this version of the 7200. This version requires a hex key to change the tips and the new tips have a hex head. screw tip. NOT SUITABLE…

Agree Disappointing!

Disappointment Really. I bought a very good soldering iron from Weller decades ago and used it for many years until it stopped working. So a few years ago I bought a Weller 7200 at a local hardware store. I've struggled with this since day one. It got hot all the time and then when I tried to heat the wires to melt the solder the tip gets cold and doesn't do its job. And yes, I thoroughly cleaned the tip pins where they meet the gun. I don't use a soldering iron regularly, but when I need one I

I'm sorry but mine works fine.

The gun is cheap of course, but heats up quickly and does the light soldering I have to do (connecting 18ga speaker wires) with no problems. I've had mine for 3 months now. I know that this gun and most other guns of this type use high amperage at low voltage. It doesn't take much resistance to pull the voltage down to 0. I would expect the sudden heat loss to be due to corrosion on the tips. A little cleaning and tightening should restore normal operation. I did this with an old Wen shotgun…
