I like smooth curves with a heavy lens

I mainly use a stabilizing monopod that is easy to transport. When a bird flies by, I just raise the monopod to take the picture. This allows me to just pan and follow the bird flying by. Nice smooth ride and very stable shooting platform.

Required Accessories: Camera & Photo

Great tool for wildlife photography. It would be very helpful to recommend each of the quick release plates at the time of purchase. needed for. This is more a matter of convenience than concern. Buying with the right accessories will save you time and last minute hassles.

Best tripod head I've ever used

I was a bit hesitant to buy because of the price. After using it for a few months I can't believe I haven't bought it until now. The smoothness of tracking wildlife with the 800mm lens is unmatched by anything I've used before. Precision product and incredibly well built. This is real value for the price. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to shoot wildlife or sports with telephoto lenses.

Pros
  • Comfortable
Cons
  • Useless features

Yes, expensive. Yes, it's worth it. The Kimberly Stabilizer is of the highest quality, works great and is made in the USA. Unlike other camera gear that you will buy again and again over the years, a quality tripod, ball head and gimbal is a one-time purchase. I made the mistake of buying cheaper tripods and ball heads before buying good ones (Gitzo and RRS) and I wouldn't make that mistake with my stabilizer! Very happy with the price!

Great for large lenses

I use this with a 500mm lens and flash with a variety of Wimberley mounts and adapters. It's amazing and highly recommended, but I'm giving one star for two small issues. 1) With my new, lighter 500mm lens, attached flash and extension, I can't get the perfect balance. I suspect the problem is that the center of gravity is a bit high even with the clamp all the way down. If the arm was an inch or so longer, balance could be achieved I think. All of this to say it's not *bad*, it's just not…

I LOVE IT! on tripod heads

I was having a very hard time photographing wildlife with my heavy 200-500mm lens mounted on a ball head. If you solve it to follow something, it will be everywhere. very difficult to control. Tightening it a bit to minimize movement still doesn't help. I was always worried it was tight enough when I wanted to go away for a minute because if it wasn't tight enough the camera lens would wobble forward and potentially damage the lens or camera. I enjoy trying to photograph pink terns (and other…
