WIX Filters 57202 Spin Filter Review

Normally a good filter but this one turned out to be dented right on the o-ring and don't want to risk a leak. Revain doesn't make the exchange easy. They should just send me a new one no questions asked but instead they want me to take it to the UPS store to ship it back. It's not worth my time. Now I only buy locally.

Wix is a respected brand in the oil filter market. While I've never had an issue with the cheaper Fram filters, they do seem to be a bit thinner than the Wix. Filter tests on Wix, which can be found on the Internet, also show excellent filtering with Wix. I use a synthetic Mobil 1 5w 40 in a Duramax diesel so I run this filter for about 10,000 miles between oil changes. So far, so good.

It works, fits and everything on my Duramax but I doubt I'll buy it again. I can usually buy a Mobil 1 filter for the same price and it's thicker than Wix. Wix has a great reputation, so I'm not saying it's bad to use. But the metal is quite thin, or at least seems thinner/cheaper than the Mobil 1 and Baldwin I've used before. And they all typically retail for around $13. I paid for that from Revain.

Wix is the only filter supplier I know of that publishes efficiency data shown as "Beta Factor" which is the industry standard for filtration. It is available for many but not all of their oil filters in their data sheet. The beta coefficient is the ratio of the number of particles of a certain size before the filter to the number of particles after the filter. Don't expect any particles downstream as this will cause problems getting the oil through the filter. I'm not sure why others don't…
