I bought 2 of these for my two Yamahas.

I bought 2 of these for my two Yamaha generators. There are cheaper fakes, but the number of revolutions and hours of operation are indicated here. Works very well with just one cable. Can be attached with Velcro or screwed to the generator for mounting.

  • Solid type

Worth the money Tachometer

Good quality. The screen is very visible. Installation didn't take long after watching the tutorial video. The last generator I bought was a cheap one (not YAMAHA) and the quality wasn't very good and the screen was hard to see. Spend the extra $$ and get the same good quality. Yamaha makes good products.

  • Decent performance

Accurate, high quality 4-Stroke Hour Meter/Tachometer

Compared to units that cost almost 1/5 the price, you will be wondering why you should buy this Yamaha unit. Well this is the second unit I have bought but it is for my new generator, the first unit on my 7 year old generator and still works great. Most cheap gauges only offer hour tracking and no RPM reading. I think with an unblemished track record of seven years on my first device, why risk a cheap one.

Inaccurate for RPM

Installed according to the instructions on a brand new Yamaha outboard motor. Used to control hours and revolutions for break-in. After hitting the recommended hours, I ran the engine at full power to check the maximum RPM. Readings were stable up to about 4500, then started to jump to varying readings from 4500 to 6000. I've tried reinstalling with extra turns around the connector wire, the reaction is the same. I paid extra for this device because of the big brand name which was very…

Pros
  • Lots of positive emotions
Cons
  • Big and bulky

The size is smaller than I expected but it's good, it fits on my generator.

The hour meter appears to be fairly accurate, but the tachometer function fluctuates too much (200-400 RPM) when the engine RPM is not changing to give any really accurate readings. This is normal for me because I bought a watch counter product. The size is smaller than I expected but it's good, it fits my generator perfectly. My only real complaint is the price. Hopefully this will last the life of my alternator and the higher cost will be worth it.

  • cool product

Easy installation, good value for money.

I bought this with a Yamaha EF2400i generator to keep track of run hours. Very easy installation. I decided to install it permanently with screws on the front panel. I routed the wires through the fairing, under the fuel tank to the spark plug wire. Everything for installation included. I read somewhere that a sealed battery only lasts three years. Still, at a cost of $10, it will be an easy and inexpensive replacement for the next three years. Worth the price. Less than an hour for…
