A gripping film about cars and car electronics

Schlondorf is a somewhat underestimated champion. Khde often works with high-level literary scripts. Here he transforms Musil's novel into a gripping film. The subject here, the sadism of bullying in a boys' school, may not be to everyone's liking. Begin with his masterful coup de grce from Yourcenar. Many of his DVDs contain valuable interviews with him. His intellect, his charm, his humor - sovereign gifts - come to the fore.

Young Torless Black and White 1966

Torless (Thomas in English) is the story of a young man who attends a boarding school and witnesses how two of his accomplices enslave and brutally beat another classmate whom they are blackmailing because they know he is stealing money from a stole from other classmates. Torless is just as powerless as the thief to stop the torture, as he himself was complicit in the non-reporting and complicity in the penalties, and was threatened with blackmail by two of his associates. spiral things. A classic of German post-war cinema. . .

Shot in crisp, elegant black and white, this 1966 film is a parable of good and evil, guilt and innocence, set in a remote Austro-Hungarian boys' school at the turn of the last century. His message is reminiscent of another story, Lord of the Flies, in which morality vanishes as the young characters are free to indulge their baser instincts. This 2005 DVD re-release includes an informative interview with director Volker Schlöndorff, who talks about his decision to film this story as a bridge to

Car electronics not for everyone

This film from the mid-1960s was one of the first German films to tackle the sensitive issue of why the Germans so widely tolerated the brutality of the Nazi regime. The film is based on Robert Musil's 1906 novel about a young man at an Austrian military academy before the First World War. The novel was extraordinarily prescient in diagnosing some of the deep and ultimately tragic flaws in Austrian and German society. The film follows the novel quite closely. The story is simple: two cadets…

Schlöndorff's first masterpiece

Robert Musil's The Confusion of Young Törless was published in 1906, on the decline of 19th century authenticity (Freud published Studies on Hysteria 1895, Interpretation of Dreams 1900; Franz Wedekind's "Spring Awakening" was published in 1890, first published in 1906 and banned in 1908; Einstein's "General Theory" was less than ten years away) in Austria-Hungary, a semi-fictional empire that had fallen apart for too long. . The greatness of Musil's work lies in the fact that he transformed…

The Origin of Evil is a disturbing and mind-bending journey.

Ideas about the origin of evil have led many philosophers to ponder the dilemma of its location. Some claim that evil is taught when children are born with a blank head. Despite the notion that children are born a blank slate, children without formal education can commit great evils. All that needs to be present is a situation that allows the child to express their unkind cruelty. Thus, evil can be found in those moments when the child lets his imagination run wild. Perhaps imagination is the…
