Zicome Hand Blown Magnet Magnetic Hourglass Review

I had another one, just like it, much better. It had a thin foam pad around the magnet on the bottom to protect the glass. It doesn't have that, just bare metal. Also, one side is slightly crooked at the bottom, which you can't see, but that's why the hourglass is a bit off the center of the base. Although the other side is good. Magnetic dust would make better shapes if it weren't so fine.

We received something like this as a gift. When my 6 year old broke it I wanted to replace it but couldn't remember the brand we had. This Zicome is a disappointment. Instead of iron infills that form a unique jagged sculpture each time, it's just a drop at a time. It might as well just be kinetic sand. The kids have lost interest.

Bought this for myself to have on my desk. First, it draws attention. I've had colleagues stop by my desk when they see this and it's a great topic of conversation. Second, great design. The worn copper base gives it a vintage look and makes me feel wiser about having it. The magnet is strong enough to create patterns as the sawdust falls and if you hold it by the jar itself the base is included. This is my third magnetic/lead coated hourglass that I have bought in the last four years. The design flaw relates to the thin glass and the lack of a rubber gasket around the magnet at the base. Never grab this hourglass by the neck or the middle, only the base, and carefully remove it with both hands and gently place it on the base. I collect watch glasses.
