Review on AirCat 803-RW 3/8-Inch Impact Ratchet With 600 RPM And 80 Ft-Lbs Of Maximum Torque - Improved SEO by David Forleo

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Ok, ends tragically, but there is supposedly another company doing it better.

I owned this Air Ratchet for 2 years and 2 months when it stopped working in the middle of a job. I work in a dealership so it saw a fair amount of use in those 2 years and it was regularly oiled and maintained. The impact function is great and a real knuckle saver. It has a 2 year warranty which is the reason for not giving it 5 stars. I called AirCat when it quit and they were very unfriendly and unhelpful about getting it repaired. I did finally get an AirCat approved repair facility's information out of them. I sent it to the repair shop and it cost $75 to rebuild. so it wasnt really worth fixing but i decided to give it a shot and paid up. I received the tool back 2 weeks later and it was the same as it was when i sent it in, no power. It had less than 5 ft lbs of torque and no impacting ability. I sent it in again to the repair place and they had it for a few more weeks. Finally their head tech of 25+ years called me and told me that the sad truth is that this is uses the same parts as the Husky, Harbor Freight, and Florida Pneumatic who makes all of them. They are nearly impossible to rebuild and the impacting air ratchets had nearly gone extinct for that reason but are making an unfortunate comeback in the last few years. They refunded most of my money and sent it back a second time doing the same thing. I did have a nice chat about there being any companies besides Florida Pneumatic producing this style of air ratchet. He did tell me that SP air has a different design that seems to be better and more reliable but only 1 year warranty. So, that is what I am going to try next. We will see how it goes. Supposedly there mechanism is patented. 2 Years wasn't a horrible run but disappointed it quit that close to warranty with no possibility of repair.

Pros
  • Ergonomic Composite Grip
Cons
  • Bulky design
