Wow. This is FLAT: my feedback

It comes with a 25 point report from the factory verifying tolerance. According to the report, it has a 2.7 crown to it. That's in MICRONS. That works out to about 0.00001" the stated tolerance on the item is 0.00005". I have no way to verify these figures, but I have already check my (cheap) straight edge which has a stated tolerance of 0.003". It was checking out at under 0.002". I just work on wood, and this is good enough for me. This will serve as the baseline for all of my

Pros
  • Very pleased, excellent value.
Cons
  • Requires special lifting equipment

Must have for serious hobbyists

Must have! If you lap a lot of stones like I do. this is a blessing. Yeah. you can buy tile and such, but they aren't always flat and don't always stay flat. Makes lapping a breeze! Heavy as hell!

Pros
  • Provides a flat surface for testing parts and equipment
Cons
  • Limited compatibility with certain types of software or programs

I DROPED THIS 1 FT AND A HALF LOND HEAVY PIECE OF GRANTE ON THE GROUND AND IT DIDN T EVEN PHASE IT. IT MAY HAVE SOME MICROSCOPIC DIFFERENCES BUT NOT MUCH BECAUSE I THINK MY RAZORS SHARPEN BETTER NOT

Pros
  • Provides a stable platform for gauge blocks and dial indicators
Cons
  • May not be cost-effective for some users

good value in my review

It arrived in a wooden crate in perfect shape, very nice and appears to be all it claims to be. This is my first and appears to be the last surface plate I will be needing, unless I some how break this one.

Pros
  • Available in various sizes to meet different measurement needs
Cons
  • May require frequent recalibration to maintain accuracy

Best value to accuracy choice

First off, this arrived double boxed with the inner box made of 3/8" plywood. This is a granite surface plate and the weight is as expected. Second, this does not have the accuracy of a Professional inspection lab use fine measuring/set up tool of .0001 across the entire surface. And it does not promise such. But, it is more than adequately precise for home, or even shop use. The actual precision of .0015 is better than most humans are capable achieving in application without high precision…

Pros
  • I love this slab. Perfectly flat. Us
Cons
  • May not be suitable for all types of measurements

NOT black granite on my review.

This is either a granite-like stone or concrete that is light gray, almost white, and has been DYED black on all but the bottom surface. This is not a cosmetic issue, it indicates that the material had to be disguised. Real granite is used for surface plates because it is dimensionally stable and resists wear, who knows what this thing is? In the pictures I uploaded you can see where the rag that was used to apply black stain strayed onto the bottom surface. The picture with the grayish paper…

Pros
  • Helps achieve precise measurements with minimal effort
Cons
  • Requires a significant investment in time and resources to use effectively

I'm pretty happy. good for me

People can say how this is inferior to a Starrett all day long, but for 1/20th the price, I'm pretty happy. Thanks for attention!

Pros
  • I use this everyday in my workshop and it's very useful.
Cons
  • May require periodic re-calibration

Exactly what I expected

I was looking at granite plates for some time. This one is the best buy in the market and outstanding quality as well. The size is also perfect for me. I use it with Height Gauge. It is big enough to position parts I measure and not too big to require a separate stand.

Pros
  • Measures dimensional tolerances with great accuracy
Cons
  • Requires a high level of attention to detail

Very nice! good for me

Bought this slab for flattening the soles of my hand planes and it does the job perfectly. Very handy size; it will handle up to a no. 5 jack plane. Anything longer and you'll need a bigger flat surface.

Pros
  • Stable, ultra flat surface
Cons
  • May require specialized training to operate effectively

Excellent Product - my new review

I bought this surface plate to verify hand plane flatness and/or resurface some of my hand planes. It works great. I've used it on other tools too such as my router planes. This is a great buy for anyone who has a new plane or an old plane they want to restore

Pros
  • As Advertised
Cons
  • Expensive

Great plate for flattening out chisels and irons

I got this to help flatten chisels and hand planes in the shop. It's big enough that I can cover most of the surface area of the planes with ease, and heavy enough that it doesn't move even when I'm putting some elbow grease into it.

Pros
  • Pretty good accuracy for a wonderful price
Cons
  • May crack or break if mishandled

Nice granite block on my review.

Nice to have a good surface block. I wouldn't know if it is good in the machinist precision way but my needs are more simple and this is good enough for me. The packaging was simple and included a box which I keep it in.Granite block, it is heavy. Expected but just saying.

Pros
  • Hand Tools
Cons
  • May not be compatible with all accessories

accurate and an incredible value

I haven't confirmed the flatness, but I'm impressed that a flatness map was included. If it's as flat as the map claimed, this is an amazing tool and value. For serving as a backing plate for straight razor servicing, the plate is a universe better than what I've seen a YouTube expert advise, which was a granite tile from Home Depot for $6. That surface (I tried two) was ridiculously warped compared to this plate. On this plate, any variation from flat is far less than what I can detect. I'm…

Pros
  • Moisture and corrosion free
Cons
  • May not be suitable for outdoor use

It’s not the precision block you are looking for.

Ben Kenobi says to keep looking this isn’t the droid you’re looking for. Wish I had better Testimony to say it’s great but this surface plate isn’t any good for checking surfaces for precision. I needed to use to check Sykes for high spots and also so o could have my indicator on it and slide end to end to check for straightness. You can see the comparisons between my level on the bed ways versus the granite and they’re significantly different. I suspect it’s because it’s only finished on one…

Pros
  • Durable construction ensures long-term use
Cons
  • Some may struggle with properly aligning their measurements on the surface plate

Must Have for Tool Care.

Cleaned up and flattened a set of chisels as soon as it arrived. Good size for maintaining personal use woodworking tools and knives. Arrived well packaged in a wood box to minimize the chance of damage during shipping. A must have for your shop or garage if you take your work and tool maintenance seriously.

Pros
  • Perfect for measuring rough, heavy, or bulky components
Cons
  • Limited warranty or guarantee on performance or durability

I use this stone to hand lap air motor and hydraulic end plates to perfection, you couldn't ask for a more flat and excellent work surface. Shipped in its own wooden crate, love this stone.

Pros
  • Provides a solid base for layout and marking out tasks
Cons
  • Limited support or customer service options
